Develop your first Bluemix app
Join us in this hands-on session for learning the fundamentals of building and deploying your application in the cloud with IBM Bluemix. See how to leverage the full capabilities of the Bluemix catalog and utilize the micro services available.

We will explore the possibilities to connect a backend systems of record, such as a database on IBM Power, with the cloud integration in Bluemix. The cloud integration service exposes REST APIs to be used by applications in hybrid architectures.

IBM Bluemix is a cloud platform as a service developed by IBM. It supports several programming languages (Java, Node.js, Go, PHP, Python, Ruby to mention a few) and services as well as integrated DevOps to build, run, deploy and manage applications on the cloud. Bluemix is based on Cloud Foundry open technology and runs on SoftLayer infrastructure. If you're a developer, you now have a hand in creating the future. Bluemix offers you what you need to push your ideas into the present. Bluemix provides data storage and integration services to develop and deploy hybrid IT architectures — with components in both cloud and non-cloud environments. Enabling secure connectivity among apps and data sources on-premises or in the cloud, Bluemix-hosted apps have access to cloud infrastructure that supports enterprise requirements such as scalability, performance, availability, and security.

Prerequisite “In order for the workshop to run as smoothly as possible, register for a free account on Bluemix a couple of days before the actual date for the workshop. Go to https://console.ng.bluemix.net/ and click the button “Create a free account” to register for a 30 days free trial on Bluemix public cloud. During the workshop we expect you to bring your own laptop with an internet connection (there will be guest wifi at the conference) to access the cloud platform at bluemix.net.”

SQL Programming Language
Abstract: SQL is much more than a query language. Besides querying and manipulating data in
database objects and generating those database objects, SQL also provides all kinds of
commands and constructs, for writing and executing programs. With the SQL Programming
Language, Stored Procedures, Triggers and User Defined (Table) Functions can be written,
without knowing anything else than SQL commands!
Learning Objectives:
This workshop will give you an introduction into the SQL Programming Language. The
procedure and function create options and controls are explained. You’ll learn how to
structure the source code within the routine body, how to define variables and cursors, what
control statements are available, how to read data row by row in a loop, how to receive and
return parameter values and result sets and how to handle errors. Besides the pure coding
you’ll get also a short introduction into the development tools.
Audience: Managers, programmers, database administrators and even (SQL) Query users who want to
enhance their SQL knowledge.

Create or Replace … DDS Files with DDL Objects
With the latest releases and technology refreshes the SQL data definition language (DDL) for creating and maintaining database objects was enormously enhanced. DDS on the other hand is stabilized. But still a lot of applications even those with a modern graphical interface and where the latest goodies of the programming language are used in the source code are based on DDS described files. The excuse DDL enhancements cannot be used, because of the DDS description and the native I/O access of these files, does not count any more. With Reverse Engineering, the SQL code for DDS described objects can be retrieved. CREATE OR REPLACE statements allow DDS described files to be converted into SQL defined database objects, while the programs that use these files can stay untouched. With the CREATE OR REPLACE TABLE statement, files with fields based on field reference tables can be managed.

Bluemix - The Digital Innovation Platform
The Bluemix cloud platform is not just about creating new apps or migrating existing ones, on-prem or off-prem implementations, or offering IaaS and PaaS cloud services. It's designed to bring all of these aspects together to help you solve your real, complex business problems in the cloud.
In this session you will get an overview of the cloud platform and the benefits it offers. IBM Bluemix supports several programming languages (Java, Node.js, Go, PHP, Python, Ruby to mention a few) and services as well as integrated DevOps to build, run, deploy and manage applications on the cloud.

Logical files, indexes and viewes - Don't get confused
Abstract: Long time ago, database objects were defined only with DDS (Data Description
Specifications). Data access occurred with native I/O through DDS described (keyed)
physical and logical files. But native I/O is only used in conjunction with RPG and COBOL.
DDS is only known on the IBM i and furthermore stabilized since a few releases. The rest of
the world uses SQL which also has become the strategical product for IBM for accessing and
database data and creating database objects. While DDS provides only a single type of
logical files, with SQL we are faced with two different types, respectively indexes and views.
As far as good! But … Do we really need to move completely to SQL? What is the difference
between these types of logical files? Which type of logical file has to be used in what
situation? … And finally what about native I/O?
Learning Objectives:
In this session the differences between the logical file types are explained. You’ll learn how
to move business logic into the database by generating SQL views. It will be explained why
SQL needs first and foremost access paths, either in SQL indexes or keyed logical files.
You’ll discover that even though an SQL index cannot be specified in an SQL statement, an
SQL index can be used in conjunction with native I/O like any DDS described keyed logical
file.
Audience: IBM i developers, database administrators and everybody who has to access data located in
tables or physical files. This session is also important for companies and the appropriate
responsible persons who plan to modernize their applications and database.

Real-time Database Replication / Anonymization
Real-time Database Replication
Extracting, transforming and loading data into different databases has never been easier.
Through just 1 graphical interface you build, manage and monitor your database replication.
Replicate from and to Microsoft SQL, Oracle, Netezza, DB2, MySQL, Postgres.
Stop with handbuild scripts, intensive (nightly) batch jobs and time-consuming modifications to your solutions and start using one application to manage all your different database replications.
Easy to understand, also for those not working with databases on a daily basis.
Anonymization
Upcoming regulations like the GDPR act, coming effective May 2018, demand companies to take sufficient measures to make sure personal data is safe.
One of the most effective action to take is to ‘Anonymize’ the personal data when it is processed outside the primary production environment.
Using our Anonymizing solution makes it possible to replicate your data and anonymize it while replicating.
One of the strong key features is that our Anonymization solution fully maintains the data type structure (IBAN, Credit Card and social security numbers etc) of the anonymized fields and therefore the data can still be used for testing and analyzing.
Visit the presentation and discover how SmartData and Anonymization helps you to comply with the new GDPR act!

Let's Join Together - Joining SQL Table and ViewsRepeat
Accessing data with SQL becomes more and more important. For resolving a single request data located in multiple tables must be filtered, accumulated and/or merged together. In this way we need to focus our attention on consolidating data split over multiple tables. SQL provides different methods for joining tables and views together, such as inner, outer, exception, cross and full join. A table or view even can be joined with itself or with the result of a different select statement. The result returned from multiple select statements can be merged and even accumulated in a single SQL statement.

Group By, Having and multi-dimensional Grouping
Abstract: An SQL SELECT can be much more than a simple SELECT * FROM query. Among others it
includes with the GROUP BY clause a powerful data aggregation capability. A bunch of
aggregate functions allows to count or summarize rows, to calculate the average over
multiple rows, to determine the minimum and maximum row value. The GROUP BY clause
may be widely known and used, but the HAVING clause which goes hand in hand with the
GROUP BY is often a mystery. There may be other secrets waiting for being revealed … or
did you know you can create all kinds of sub-totals and grand-totals with SQL?
Learning Objectives:
In this session you’ll learn the basic use of the GROUP BY and HAVING clauses as well as
the use of multiple aggregate functions. You’ll also discover how NULL values can affect the
result returned by aggregate functions. It will be demonstrated how easily all kinds of sub-
totals and grand-totals can be built. You’ll also learn how to use the CASE clause for building
pivot tables.
Audience: Programmers, Database Administrators and Engineers who quite often need to run queries
or built reports that include sub-totals and grand totals. Everybody who is interested in what
can be done with an SQL SELECT statement.

Consume XML Documents and Web Services with SQL (SQL and XML – Part2)
Abstract: The XML support included in SQL and DB2 for i with Release 7.1 does not only allow XML
documents to be generated, but also allow XML documents to be consumed. Annotated XML
Document Decomposition is a SQL stored procedures that shreds XML documents based on
registered XML schemas directly into database tables. With the XMLTABLE table function
XML documents can be parsed, converted into a relational representation and data picked
specifically out. Additional scalar functions allow SQL to directly access XML documents
located within the IFS (Integrated File System) or in source physical file members. Last but
not least new SQL functions for getting access to web services are introduced. In
composition with the XMLTABLE function the XML answers returned by web services can be
consumed. The focus of this session is parsing XML documents located in either SQL tables
or within the IFS or returned by web services.
Learning Objectives:
Learn how well-formed XML documents located in either the IFS or an XML column can be
parsed with the XMLTABLE table function, converted into a relational representation and
data specifically selected. You’ll also get an overview over the new http-functions and how to
use them for getting access to web services.
Audience: Developers and Users who are experienced in SQL Queries and need to process XML
documents located in either SQL tables or the IFS or look for an easy way to access web
services or simply want to enhance their SQL know-how.
